Elephants are the biggest mammals in the world weighing over 8 tones These include both male and female elephants and these can be found in sub-saharan African and in the Rainforests of both Central and West Africa.
Elephants feed on green fresh vegetation and can consume over 250-350 kilograms of vegetation a day and this helps to maintain the grasslands as they reduce the tree cover. They can drink around 110-190 liters of water on a daily basis. In hot days, where water tends to be scarse, elephants dig the ground using their big trunks and tusks to create water ponds.
Elephants can be sighted on Game Drives and spotted in landscape areas that appear to be critical for their long term survival.

Just like any other wildlife, African elephants have also got different species of which are;
- Savannah/bush elephants(Loxodonta Africana)
- Forest elephants
- Asian elephants(most aggressive)
Generally elephants are the most intelligent, affectionate and sociable animals as far as wildlife is concerned. They are peaceful animals unless when there is danger which they sense from the ground through their huge feet. When an enemy attacks them, they use their big trunks to carry the enemy up and down. This is done with the help of their tusks (teeth) to tear and wear the enemy until left lifeless.
Prey feeding animals like leopards, lions are their greatest enemies as they depend on them for food. Poachers are also a big threat to them as they illegally kill them for ivory.
Conclusively, sighting elephants and their lifestyle is a great memorable experience to many tourists.
