This 5 Days Rwanda gorilla and wildlife safari transfers you to the Land of a thousand hills with a first activity being game watching in the Akagera National Park that was named after River Kagera which feeds several Lakes (Lake Gishanju, Lake Ihema, Lake Mihindi, Lake Rwanyakizinga and Lake Shakani) within and around the park. The 5 day safari also transfers you to Volcanoes national park for a memorable gorilla trekking experience.
Day 1: Arrival and hotel transfer
Upon your all at Kigali international airport and transfer to your lodge/hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, drive to Akagera National Park. The park is bordering with Tanzania and dominated scenically by a labyrinth of swamps and lakes that follow the meandering course of the Akagera River. Upon arrival, check-in Akagera Game lodge. Have lunch and then enter the national park for an afternoon game drive, later dinner and overnight stay at Akagera game lodge.
Day 3: Game drives and transfer to volcanoes national park
After an early breakfast, head for the game drive in the National park. Akagera is home to a variety of game, it’s an exciting reserve and there are plenty of animals around and the birdlife is quite exceptional. Mammals include a healthy population of Elephant and Buffalo, plus 11 species of antelope including Impala, Common Duiker, Defassa Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Oribi, Tsessebe, Cape Eland and the rare Sable Antelope. Hippos are present in impressive numbers in the lakes and rivers and Zebra and Giraffe still roam the more open acacia dotted plains.
Afternoon, drive to Musanze the main base town for Gorilla tracking. The drive is through beautiful rolling hills on a comfortable paved road enclosed by steep and green terraced hills along eastern Rwanda. The road winds endlessly in a countless number of twists and turns, and the common storm clouds lend a raggedly romantic panorama to this region.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – Mountain Gorillas
After your morning wake-up call and breakfast, report to the park headquarters, for gorilla trekking formalities and briefing by the Volcanoes National Park’s guides on the gorillas’ etiquette. You will be assigned to a specific group of gorillas. Your trek will vary in length depending on which gorilla group you have been assigned to.
After locating your assigned Gorilla group you will spend one hour in their company before retracing your steps back down the volcano slopes. Have lunch at the lodge. Afternoon, enjoy the scenic transfer back to Kigali.
Day 5: Departure
After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy Kigali city tour including Gisozi genocide memorial site, have lunch and then proceed to the Airport for your outbound.
