Uganda wildlife education centre was established in 1994, to control the neglected Entebbe Zoo and provide leadership in educating Ugandans the benefits of conservation and protection of the country’s biodiversity.
The control/conservation area begun as a zoo and altered to wildlife centre for the rescued animals for the purpose of educating the public about wildlife conservation. These rescued animals are from various protected and unprotected areas all over the country.
The purpose of Uganda wildlife Authority is to market the country’s destinations by summarising the attractions in one area. However there are other endangered species which are absent because of the unique environment setting for example Gorillas and Golden monkeys.
Uganda Wildlife Authority is located in Entebbe town Uganda’s main entrance and exit point, wakiso district at the shores of Lake Victoria, worlds second largest fresh water lake shared amongst East African countries, thus Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
UWEC gives an awesome and brief introduction to Uganda’s flora and fauna in all the protected areas. It has as many plants and animals in a near world situation and one can spend half, full day to two days in this facility observing the wonders of the country.
Uganda Wildlife Education Centre has recently become tourism destination due to the purpose of learning and conservation of wildlife. A number of Ugandans and Foreigners flock in for tourism and learning and it is very hard to visit without finding groups of students in the area.
Uganda Wildlife Education Centre consists of animals that are free ranging, those in cages, birds and several tree and shrubs. Animals such as lions, leopards, white rhinos, elephants, giraffes, chimpanzees and so much more can easily be viewed while at Entebbe UWEC.
Uganda Wildlife Education Centre has a number of activities at affordable costs for those interested in visiting the centre. Activities include guided tour around UWEC. Walk around with experience guide from UWEC will trained and fully equipped with knowledge to guide and show you all attractions at UWEC while attending to all your questions.
You may choose to participate in behind the scene program to learn more about what takes place behind the scene. Other interesting activities include: chimpanzee close up that allows you to get up close with chimps. Chimpanzee close up will require you to have certain medications plus game viewing. The destination also consists of other primates of the monkey family like white and black Columbus monkeys plus baboons.
UWEC participate in conservation initiatives in Uganda including wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, therefore it has a fully-fledged veterinary hospital services and captive breeding of endangered species of the area.
It also contributes to scientific research and is committed to develop education programmes for the general public, with particular emphasis on instilling a conversation ethic and engaging young people.
Research and volunteer program are best done at the site because of a variety of flora and fauna within the protected area of the country. The place has children facilities to help them enjoy it as a touristic destination while on their fun time adventure safari.
