1 day mabamba birding tour to Mabamba swamp the commonly known habitat for the shoebills is a wetland situated along the only fresh water lake that covers the 3 countries of East Africa (Lake Victoria) and in the northwest of the Entebbe town.
Mabamba wetland is a unique extensive marsh stretching along a narrow bay, surrounded with papyrus towards Lake Victoria. Being one of Uganda’s top birding destination or site, it harbours a variety of bird species with main spots of the rare shoebills, the blue swallow and the papyrus gonolek.
Itinerary for the 1 day mabamba birding tour
For adventurous birding spots, you wake up early in the morning and have breakfast as you prepare to set off immediately our drive guide picks you from your hotel or place of residence. We set off with packed lunch and travel to Mabamba Swamp for the day bird watching activity that will take us a whole day. The journey takes an hour and 20 minutes by road either via Entebbe road or Masaka road.
Arrival at the Island
A canoe ride through papyrus swamp will take you at the best view of spotting the Shoebills which usually hide in the water weeds to feed on the fish. A variety of other bird species include the African Jacana, Lesse Jacana, Blue reasted Bee eater, Common Moorhen, African Purple Swamphen, Swamp Flycatchers, African Water Rail, Saddle billed Stork, Squacco heron, African Pygime Goose, Malachite Kingfisher and White faced whistling duck and many more.
Later in the afternoon after all our day activities and adventurous bird spots, we transfer back to the hotel, airport or your preferred drop-off.
